Pinchgut Opera presents Orontea by Cesti 2022

Add to the mix her moralistic councillor Creonte, the scheming courtesan Silandra, and the maidservant Giacinta, who disguises herself as a boy - only to accidentally inspire the affections of Alidoro's lascivious mother, Aristea. Orontea features an artfully assembled cast led by stunning soprano Anna Dowsley - star of the film A Delicate Fire - together with Pinchgut fan-favourites Max Riebl, David Greco, Jacqueline Dark and Andrew O'Connor. New Zealand tenor Jonathan Abernathy joins American soprano Sofia Troncoso in their Pinchgut opera debuts. Musical heir to Monteverdi and a younger contemporary of Cavalli, Cesti was one of the most popular composers of the

It was meticulously catalogued by curators of the Prague Jewish Museum during the Nazi occupation of Bohemia and Moravia. Between 1942 and 1945, the museum was transformed into the largest depository of objects of Judaica in the world. To this day, the idea of the Nazis' intention to create a 'museum of an extinct race' still prevails. Drawing on recent research by the post-communist generation of Czech historians, Dr. Jana Vytrhlik discusses the myth and introduces a more perceptive and accurate account of the past events in Prague. Dr. Jana Vytrhlik is a Prague-born art historian specialising in Judaica and synagogue architecture with a PhD in Art History, University of Sydney. Jana worked in the Jewish Museum in Prague, Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and the Sydney Jewish Museum. In 2016, Jana joined th

How can we use what we have learnt over the last two years to ensure we emerge a healthier and fairer society? Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard is now the Chair of the Wellcome Trust, a not-for-profit global organisation that supports science to solve urgent health challenges equitably. She joins journalist Tegan Taylor for an evening of conversation exploring how to leverage science and make advances in health available to everyone. This event is co-presented by the UNSW Centre for Ideas, Kirby Institute and UNSW Medicine & Health . https://upnext.com.au/event/julia-gillard-in-conversation-with-tegan-taylor-2022 Check out our website https://upnext.com.au/sydney Check out our Vimeo channel https://vimeo.com/upnextsydney Check out our
