Midnight Murder at Hamlington Hall 2023

Image
It is the opening night of director-writer Shane Tweed's new murder mystery, Midnight Murder at Hamlington Hall. Seven of the amateur theatre company's cast are down with the dreaded lurgy. So the Middling Cove Players' director and two of the remaining actors, and whoever else Shane can co-opt, pitch in to continue the long tradition of 'the show must go on.' Juggling nerves, props, and absurd miscasting, will they manage to pull it off? Or will everything go horribly, terribly and awfully wrong? Jamie Oxenbould and Mark Kilmurry's new comedy looks behind the scenes at the world of amateur theatre, where luck, determination and unbridled confidence rule the day. A very funny take on bad timing, incompetence and sweet optimism to end the 2023 season. https://upnext.com.au/event/midnight-murder-at-hamlington-hall-2023 https://bit.ly/3RmqBbG Check out our website https://upnext.com.au/sydney/ Check out our Vimeo channel https://vimeo.com/upnextsydney Check out our

Safe Space is a powerful new art installation at 107 Projects, Redfern opening on 30 November by emerging artist Shelley Watters. Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day? reveals the extraordinary reach and intensity of her art, from her haunting Personage sculptures of the 1940s to her tough yet tender textile works of the 1990s and 2000s. It also reveals, as never before, the psychological tensions that powered her search, through a dramatic presentation in two contrasting exh

Luminous 2023

Image
This exhibition is a family collective of female artists, mother and two daughters, exploring interpretations of light and radiance in their chosen mediums. Angela Lober's contemporary natural history watercolours capture plants and insects with clarity and accuracy. Some of her works employ the ancient techniques of the Illuminated manuscripts painted on traditional vellum. Intensity of light, colour and iridescence inspire her work along with the magical wonder of nature. Annika Karskens creates sculptural art and jewellery which capture iridescence in nature. Inspired by flora and insects, she seeks luminosity in everyday objects. Having centred her practice around the use of repurposed aluminium coffee capsules, she melds this engineered lustre with naturally occurring brilliance. Claudia Karskens' acrylic landscapes explore luminescence in our everyday environments. Her series of streetscapes and nature captures a moment in time between sunrise and sunset. The three artist

They farmed tapioca, oranges and rice: Camille Laddawan 2023

Image
They farmed tapioca, oranges and rice poetically examines the multiple cultural and biological lineages that artist Camille Laddawan and her partner Roslyn Orlando will share with their child. Through the process of understanding a child's origin story, the birthing parent, the non-birthing parent, and the donor each hold and offer a different relationship to ancestry and heritage. Each has a nuanced history of tradition, migration, cultural loss, and change. In a series of beaded works, the exhibition considers the relationship between what is inherited and the threads that culminate in a child's understanding of their identity through storytelling.
