Elvis - The Biggest Elvis Show On Earth 2023

Image
If any of his fans feared his star would fade, they were gladly mistaken. Not only does he sell more records today than when he was alive but his fan clubs around the world have grown along with the legend. There are estimated to be 30,000 Elvis impersonators on the planet but there are very few good ones and only a handful of great ones. ' ELVIS' features two of the great ones and for the first time anywhere in the world. For the 'biggest ELVIS show on earth,' it is only fitting that we have a father and son playing young ELVIS and Vegas ELVIS in the latter half of his career. Anthony Fenech is young ELVIS and Paul Fenech is older ELVIS .The largest group of performers that ELVIS ever shared a stage with was 47 musicians and singers. This show will feature over 100 musicians and singers on stage, more than double the KING ever worked with. You can be in the audience for this historical, record-breaking event that is never likely to be repeated. This event will be

Ralph Stanton: Looking for the Light 2023

Image
This exhibition is a continuation of Ralph Stanton's last show There's a Crack in Everything (after Leonard Cohen). These works are a bit more subtle. There's no obvious crack or rupture in the surface or the picture plane, it's more like layers of light, glowing through an opaque landscape. It's more nuanced. It reflects an underlying feeling Ralph has that the light we seek is ephemeral, it appears from behind, from the sides, from above, from below, indirect, yet luminous. The light is integrated and inherent, rather than something that might be more directly stated. Illumination not via a lightning strike, but rather a glow. He's interested in the patterns of light as they play out on the texture of the paint's surface. The painting becomes like a piece of jewellery, an artefact in itself without the need for illustration or to tell a story. Ralph's work might be categorized as Abstract Expressionism but aims to be subtle and feeling-based. He is int

Forty x 40 Art Exhibition 2023

Image
Phil McKay is a Sydney based artist who works in a variety of mediums including acrylics, gouache, charcoal and pastels. Phil's creative focus is structures in the landscape, both urban and rural. The urban landscape is a reflection of his childhood passion of wandering the streets of his neighbourhood and when on holidays in country towns. He has a fascination with the angles roofs create against one another, the sky and landscape formation. Recent observations and work also include objects, structures and figures in the coastal environment. This exhibition of urban landscape and still life comprises 25 works on 40cmx 40cm timber panels, all with raw timber frames and same price. Lynn Pavey: Febrile Momentum 2023

Image
Inspired by Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre, Febrile Momentum (2023), in its three-dimensional intricacy, echoes the forms found across the lakebed - crusty clay pans in stunning earthy hues. Reflecting Lynn Pavey's sense of melodrama, the work contrasts the inertia of parched waters with the frenzied energy of the encroaching desert sands in the landscape. They are a mass in motion, continually developing at a pace and unlikely to stop. Febrile Momentum is on display from 3 August - 24 September 2023. Object Space is a window gallery located in the window of the Australian Design Centre HQ on William Street in Darlinghurst. The exhibition space has direct street frontage, is accessible to view 24 hours a day and is lit for viewing at night. Murder For Two 2023

Image
Officer Marcus Moscowicz is a small-town policeman with dreams of making it to detective. One fateful night, shots ring out at the surprise birthday party of Great American Novelist Arthur Whitney, and the writer is killed… fatally. With the nearest detective an hour away, Marcus jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills - with the help of his silent partner, Lou. But whodunit? Did Dahlia Whitney, Arthur's scene-stealing wife, give him a big finish? Is Barrette Lewis, the prima ballerina, the prime suspect? Did Dr. Griff, the overly friendly psychiatrist, make a frenemy? Marcus has only a short amount of time to find the killer and make his name before the real detective arrives… and the ice cream melts. Murder For Two is an outrageous blend of music, mayhem, and murder. In this hilarious 90-minute show, 2 performers play 13 roles - not to mention the piano - in a witty parody of classic murder mysteries. https://upnext.com.au/event/murder-for-two-2023 Check out our websit

Order-Disorder 2023

Image
Order-Disorder is a solo exhibition of paintings and ceramic objects by Carlos Gomes looking at the relationship between art and technology. Gomes is interested in exploring the intersection of the ancient techniques (hand-building, brush strokes, glaze technology) associated with painting and ceramics, and the newer digital technologies associated with design and production (such as the 3D printer). Gomes has also wrestled with the question of how artists deal with the emotions associated with the process of artistic creation. Gomes sees each work as a conversation between the artist and the artwork. This conversation can be a long and complicated one and goes on until some kind of agreement can be reached. https://upnext.com.au/event/order-disorder-2023 Check out our website https://upnext.com.au/sydney Check out our Vimeo channel https://vimeo.com/upnextsydney Check out our Youtube channel UpNext Sydney Youtube

Alan Rose: Geometric Progression 2023

Image
Originally trained as an engineer, Alan Rose graduated from NAS (National Art School) in 2009. His practice has always involved precise three-dimensional geometric repetitions, employing blocks, tiles, grids or lenticular structures. This art picks up the threads of the conceptual art, op-art and kinetic art of the 1960's, which was less about the immediate expressionism of the artist and more about the mental state of the viewer. In a sense it links with Sol le Witt's conceptualism, where the 'planning and decision-making are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair'. The intuitive, creative process is moved one step backwards, but never dispensed with. The works are intended to sit on the boundary between order and chaos. The viewer is encouraged to see repeating patterns where there is only disorder, or to see disorder where upon closer examination it is discovered that patterns exist. It is in this moment of contemplation that the artwork becomes su

Botanica de Materia Medica Exhibition 2023

Image
Plants used for treatment and healing are at the very heart of Botanic Art. This began with the scientific illustration of medicinal and culinary plants. Among the earliest recorded examples are the illustrations by a Greek physician Cretavas in the 1st century BC and the 5-volume medical manuscript, De Materia Medica , written between 50 and 70AD by Dioscorides. It was such an effective and easily understood means of recording and explaining medicinal herbals that the Materia persisted in use until the Renaissance of the 15th and 16th centuries. Western style Botanical Art evolved with the great botanical expeditions of the 17th and 18th centuries and better printing techniques. More people could access books and art as domestic decoration became more popular portraits of plants came to be appreciated for their beauty as well as their scientific description. Botanical art in other styles such as the works of British Pre-Raphaelite artists and the lavish floral arrangements of the Dutc

Persistence of Vision; The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters 2023

Image
An exhibition exploring the realm of the phantastic by Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro. Persistence of Vision; The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters is a Willoughby City Council curated exhibition exploring the realm of the phantastic. Belief in the phantasms of the past such as The Loch Ness Monster, ghostly spectres, Little Green Men and Bigfoot have mostly been put to bed through modern scientific analysis. But what has replaced these bug-a-boos? Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro combine the diaphanous spectres of the past with the delusions of the near-present. Utilising Lego as its primary medium, The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters will offer Lego mosaic renderings of endearing paranormal entities of the past combined with small Lego sculptures of improvised weapons collected in the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection in DC. Mr Bailey's Minder by Debra Oswald 2023

Image
John Gaden returns to the Ensemble stage. In 2018 he was alongside John Bell in the Ensemble production of DIPLOMACY, in 2023 John plays Leo Bailey, a national treasure and one of Australia's greatest artists in MR. BAILEY'S MINDER. Leo has been ravaged by years of alcohol abuse, self-loathing and indulgent misbehaviour, and now needs round-the-clock care.
