Ferals, Flora and Fauna-The Fragmented Environment 1770-2023
Ferals, Flora and Fauna, The Fragmented Environment 1770-2023, highlights the destruction of Australia's native animals caused by the introduction of invasive species by past explorers and European colonisers. The focus is on the devastating impact of domestic, stray and feral cats, which now roam over 95% of Australia and kill over two thousand animals every minute.
The exhibition draws attention to the fact that while past colonisers had the excuse of ignorance, today's problem goes largely ignored. Murphy's series of works use anthropomorphic characters to tell the story of the Great Southern Land journey from the past to the present and future.
This narrative poses an intriguing question about whether Australia is truly a democracy or if it has forgotten what really matters: our heritage and environment. Overall, the Exhibition Introduction sets the stage for a thought-provoking and impactful exhibition that aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Australia's unique wildlife.
