The Big Busk 2022
Over 500 musicians from Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) aged 5-25 will once again take to the streets for the triumphant return of SYO's The Big Busk.
Imagine commuting to work, exercising, shopping, or eating lunch with a live soundtrack provided by an orchestra!
The Big Busk is Australia's largest orchestral youth music event. Musicians from across NSW will be performing live in locations including Martin Place, Pitt St Mall, QVB, Grosvenor Place, Darling Park, Bella Vista Pocket Park, and for the first time, live streamed from the SYO Live studio at the Registrar General's Building.
Over 30 hours of music will be performed from 8am to 6pm in a single day.
The city will be filled with the sounds of well-known classics alongside modern day hits that both adults and children will love. From Westside Side Story to Star Wars, Dance Monkey to Disney, Beethoven to the Beetles, Copland, Mozart and Strauss! There are even pop adaptations from the likes of Taylor Swift and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
SYO will be celebrating its 50th year in 2023, yet still has no permanent home to rehearse and perform in. Funds raised at The Big Busk will contribute to finally making that a reality, along with supporting SYO to purchase instruments, sheet music and pay for business infrastructure.
