The word sonder means 'the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own'. Angela Knight's show at The Shop Gallery from 21-24 July explores ideas of aloneness, separation and independence through her drawn images of urban landscapes. Angela's drawing process is slow, repetitive and meditative. The pencil is dense and deliberate. There is a multi-layered blending of colours and textures to achieve a jewel-like image. Angela has been a finalist in the 2023 Ravenswood Women's Art Prize and was commended in the 2022 Arts in the Valley Prize. Angela lives in the Inner West working from a home studio. This is her first solo show. Seymour welcomes acclaimed independent theatre company Tooth and Sinew to perform within the Seymour Season for the first time, co-presenting the world premiere of Richard Hilliar 's theatrical adaptation of Henry James ' classic novella The Turn of the Screw from the 21 July to 12 August. The Turn of the Screw is a creeping and malevolent exploration of the way the crimes of the past poison long into the future. A governess is sent to an isolated country estate to care for two children, only to discover that things are not at all as they seem. The children are charming, if perhaps a little too precocious. For a while everything seems perfect. But something is gathering, waiting. There is a figure in the darkness. And there are sins that don't die with the sinner. This fascinating course is composed of six studio and three plein air sessions. The aim of the course is to enable students to work up their own drawings en plein air then develop and progress their work onto larger canvasses in the studio. Tuesdays 1-4pm for 9 weeks [Term 3 starts 17 July] Sessions 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, & 9 will be held in the studio at Willoughby Arts Centre with sessions 3, 6 and 8 en plein air. Plein air sessions will start with free form drawing before proceeding to quick watercolour sketches. In the studio you will work at your own pace to develop your paintings - discussing your ideas, working on individual style and addressing any issues. Students may work in either acrylic or oil paint or mixed mediums of their choice.
